OST files are on client systems. But why this tool has options to save OST files to Exchange Server, Office 365, etc.?

Exchange administrators can use this tool after Exchange disasters to restore user mailboxes to a live Exchange Server or Office 365. Only thing is that they have to collect OST files from the client machines.

On a colleague's recommendation I downloaded the tool but was afraid that it will not give me positive because the size of the OST files was large. But to my surprise, it proved me wrong.

During the backup, my system unexpectedly gets shut down, due to which my OST files becomes corrupted/inaccessible state.
